VTI measures aircraft tire pressure |
| |
VTI
Technologies Oy supplies bare die pressure sensors for use in Crane
Aerospace & Electronics' SmartStem* tire pressure monitoring system. The
capacitive pressure sensors are built into the tire’s inflation stem
that makes the daily tire pressure check quick, easy, accurate, and
automatically documented. This technology is passive, obtaining its
operating power from an external reader or interrogator. The advantage
to this system is that there are no batteries, power sources, or wires.
Maintaining proper tire pressure is very important both to aircraft
safety and economics. VTI's measurement philosophy provides an easy and
cost effective approach to measuring pressure, especially in extremely
harsh environments. The pressure sensor has enabled SmartStem* to become
a new standard in tire pressure maintenance, thus leading to improved
tire wear, reliability, and lower aircraft operating costs. VTI develops
sensors with competitive features for various applications in
automotive, medical, sports & wellness as well as in instruments and
handheld terminals. ... |

M² magnetic foil sensor |
| |
|
Metallux AG: Where weight is critical and space is limited - M²
magnetic foil sensor. Combining foil technology and magnetic circuit
design the newly designed M² magnetic foil sensor is cost effective for
automotive applications and precise enough for industrial applications
in the range of 5-1000mm for absolute linear position sensing or with a
rotation angle of 0-360°. M² contact free sensor operates on the basis
of a magnetic field generated by a permanent magnet integrated into a
hermetically sealed foil system. Foil technology – proved in automotive
and industrial applications - provides robust, low cost solutions for
absolute linear and angle position sensing. The idea of combining foil
with a magnetic field in order to have a contact free foil technology
that produces an analogue output signal results in M² magnetic foil
sensor. The technical advantage of M²: The foils are hermetically sealed
by a proven technology. M² sensor is suitable for applications where
high velocities in the movement is demanded, because the response time
of the foil with respect to the magnetic field is optimized. An advanced
magnetic circuit makes low hysteresis possible. ... |

Industrial joystick with USB interface |
| |
Metallux’
joystick MJ-3K is an industrial joystick now available with USB
interface. Established analogue and digital output signals of this
hermetically sealed analogue foil sensor MetaPot and the - quasi with no
abrasion – conductive plastic potentiometer elements and the conductive
plastic digital elements are being made USB compliant. The electronic
contains a stabilizing power supply unit, an adequate processor and a
standardized USB connector. Driver and documentation are included in
order to provide easy installation. Example of application: In a 3-D
measuring machine pre-positioning of the measuring cameras is done via
one 2-axis and a 1-axis analogue joystick. These joysticks have
additional 2 directional contacts for plausibility checks. In its lever
the joystick has got an additional switch which operates the programming
of a selected position. The 2 joysticks that are used in this
application generate 3 analogue and 8 digital output signals. They are
converted into USB data signals which is the input for the industrial
PC. ... |

Customized OEM Color Sensing – Customer
specific solutions for color analysis and spectral sensor systems |
| |
MAZeT
GmbH presented the newest products from the JENCOLOR family for
spectral analysis at the "SENSOR+TEST 2007" trade fair. Color analysis
know-how. Starting immediately, MAZeT also offers customized OEM Color
Sensing, in the field of color analysis and spectral sensor systems, to
its customers. "In addition to the development and distribution of the
JENCOLOR sensors, our design team is now developing tailored color
analysis modules, including optical connection, especially for customers
or applications”, said Frank Krumbein, Division Manager of
Optoelectronics at MAZeT. “With this enhancement of our portfolio, we
are reacting to the increasing demand for customer-specific ideal
solutions. JENCOLOR stands for reliability, quality and cost control in
the whole chain - sensors, optics, electronics, production and support.”
Based on the customer’s specifications for filter functions, there are
adjusted arrays of sensors with diverse hardware functions that are
custom-tailored to give a technical and economic application. The
customization of firmware for µC-based projects and/or the development
of special PC-based evaluation software rounds off the power spectrum
for our customers. ... |

Continuous self-testing |
| |
|
VTI has implemented in it's new automotive multi-axis digital
sensors families, SCA3100 and SCA2100, a novel method for self testing,
based on redundancy. A multi-axis accelerometer consists of separate
subsystems for each axis. Depending on the implementation these
subsystems may be isolated from each other or partially combined sharing
e.g. a common proof mass. In all cases, additional sensing subsystems
can be added, which are redundant and will thus provide means for
continuous self testing. It would be inefficient to add one redundant
subsystem for each axis. VTI's new invention is based on adding only
one, which covers all the sensing axes. If the primary subsystems
measure acceleration in e.g. in x- y- and z- directions then the
redundant one should point to a test direction that will be at an angle
not perpendicular or not parallel to any of the primary sensing
directions. Providing that the prevailing acceleration has a component
in the test direction a continuous self test can be implemented over the
available g-range. Zero point testing is automatically implemented
without any requirements to the prevailing acceleration. ... |

Sensors for heartbeat detection in cars |
| |
|
Heartbeat detection is a brand new feature incorporating very sensitive
sensors and sophisticated software to detect if there is a human being
in the car when the car is locked and should be empty. The main reason
to introduce such a system was to detect if a child, for example was
inadvertently left in the car. It might also be useful to detect hidden
car occupants or pets accidentally left in the car. VTI is one of
the very few accelerometer suppliers offering sensors with adequate
resolution at affordable cost for heartbeat detection. This has been
achieved by utilising the large signal of the 3D MEMS sensing element
together with low noise interface electronics. In this way a good enough
signal-to-noise ratio for micro-g resolution has been obtained. In
addition systems use intelligent and adaptive digital filtering for
