Akzo Nobel selects Optimass to control product consistency and manufacturing costs

World leading producer of paints and coatings, Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings, has installed four KROHNE OPTIMASS Coriolis Mass flowmeters to help accurately control product consistency and minimise production costs. The OPTIMASS flowmeters control the volume of chemicals that are added to Akzo Nobel’s Crown range of solvent-based paint products at its manufacturing plant in Darwen, Lancashire.
Accurately measuring the amount added to the paint is essential to minimising costs and maintaining consistent product quality. The chemicals are contained in stainless steel storage vessels, which are located 70 meters away from the production facility. They are pumped at low pressure through the OPTIMASS flowmeters and in to mixing vessels where the paint is manufactured in batches. The flowmeters accurately measure the flow of the chemicals into the paint mixing vessels. Signals from the instruments are fed into the production control system which controls the flow of the chemicals from the storage vessels to ensure that the correct amount is added. Previously Akzo Nobel measured the amount of chemical added to batches of paint using a load cell-based weighing system. ...

Moisture in Oil Measurement – EE36 Transmitter from E+E Elektronik

Transmitters of the EE36 Series from E+E Elektronik allow most accurate online-monitoring of moisture content in oil. That is very important to ensure the safe operation of machines and transformers concerned. If the amount of moisture in lubricating or insulating oils becomes too high then there is a high risk of damages to machines and transformers.
The quality of lubrication and the dielectric strength are decreased dramatically by increase of moisture in oil. Maintenance works can be done on demand and in time when the oil’s moisture is measured constantly by EE36. Expensive periods of standstill and long lasting repair works will be avoided. A continuous operation of machines and transformers is warranted. Besides measurement of water activity (0...1 aw) and oil temperature (-40...180°C // -40…356°F) the EE36 also can calculate the absolute water content (ppm). That is very important for mineral transformer oils. The calculation of water content in non-mineral transformer and lubrication oils can be accomplished by downloading specific parameters of the oil. The proofed capacitive E+E sensor element ensures for best long term stability, ...

Watchdog "Elite" Bucket Elevator Monitor

The bucket elevator monitor for the 21st century. The 4B Watchdog "Elite" uses non-contacting, magnetic sensors to monitor belt speed and belt alignment at the head / boot or both. Additional sensors monitor bearing temperature, head pulley alignment and plugged spout conditions.
The system incorporates dual microprocessor control, using the latest PIC microprocessors and non-volatile (EEPROM) memory chips. An LCD screen displays elevator status messages (available in four different languages) and a super-bright LED screen displays belt speed. All units automatically select supply voltages from 110VAC to 240VAC (50-60 HZ) and supply the sensors with fully regulated 12VDC. Voltage free isolated relay contacts are provided for alarm, stop, underspeed, misalignment, and temperature. RS485 communication is also available for connection to plant computers / PLCs. Simple menu-driven calibration and parameter adjustment. Cert: ATEX/IEC Ex Zone 21 ...

Rotary Torque - setting new price standards
The new range of rotary torque transducers from Applied Measurements provide an economical solution to rotary torque measurement. With prices starting from as low as GBP980.00, they are designed primarily for use on test stands, machines in industry, aerospace, marine and the laboratory. Covering ranges from 0-0.2Nm to 0-80kNm these transducers use either conventional slip rings or for high speed applications, brushless transmission, enabling torque to be measured at up to 20,000rpm. Mechanical coupling options include keyed shafts, square drives, flanges and combined shaft and flange versions. Output signal options include standard bridge mV output or higher level amplified voltage (0-5Vdc, 0-10Vdc) or current (4-20mA). In addition to their torque measuring capability, some models incorporate speed measuring devices to permit the direct calculation of power in addition to torque and rotational speed. To facilitate a complete installation a comprehensive range of digital and analogue instrumentation is offered including system calibration and certification to UKAS standards. ...

VTI's 3-axis acceleration sensor for new biofeedback device
VTI Technologies supplies its new SCA3000 3-axis accelerometer for a novel Swiss-made biofeedback device named ikcal. The purpose of ikcal is to promote the awareness of medium- and long-term measures aimed at behavioral modification. It measures individual's calorie consumption through physical activity and compares this with their personal energy uptake in the form of food consumption on daily basis. In addition to the energy balance, the ikcal also indicates whether a person is exercising sufficiently. The physical activity is calculated by measuring the heart rate and the acceleration which are converted into kilocalories. There is a great need for this kind of biofeedback device. The alarming fact is that more and more people in the industrial nations suffer from chronic obesity. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global incidence of obesity has risen in the last ten years from 10% to 14%. Several renowned Swiss institutions from the areas of science, technology and sport were involved in the research for and development of the ikcal. ...

New analogue temperature transmitter family T91

Enhanced product portfolio for industrial and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning) applications. WIKA is enhancing its temperature transmitter portfolio. The new T91 temperature transmitters are available with voltage or current output and in rail or head mounting versions.
These analogue temperature transmitters are characterized by fixed measuring ranges for Pt100/Pt1000 or thermocouples. Industry-compliant accuracy, interference resistance and sensor monitoring are further features of these compact signal converters. The T91.10 head mounting transmitters can be mounted inside any DIN form B connection head. In addition the T91.20 head mounting version is also suitable for DIN form J connection heads. The T91.30.232 rail mounting transmitter offers a useful special feature: The sensor input and output are galvanically isolated - despite the analogue construction. For this reason the T91.30.232 is ideal for fast measurements even with non-insulated or base-metal thermocouples. ...
