New VTI automotive digital accelerometer
platform |
| |
|
VTI Technologies, the major manufacturer of high-performance
motion and pressure sensors for automotive and consumer related
applications, is launching a best-in-class accelerometer and
inclinometer platform for vehicle stability control and related systems
worldwide. The new VTI automotive digital accelerometer platform is
intended for single and multiple axis acceleration and inclination
measurement. |
|
|
It has been developed to meet the most demanding needs of vehicle
electronic systems using digital signal processing, introducing several
important safety features such as continuous self-test. The components
form a complete set of low-g accelerometers with the same mechanical
design and SPI-interface. They are small in size, high in performance
and require only one PCB design for all versions. They cover
acceleration and inclination measurements in applications like
Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assistant (HSA),
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), Roll Stability, Roll Over and
Electrically Controlled Suspension. The multiple options for each car
platform can be covered with one ECU or sensor cluster design by
selecting the appropriate sensor version from VTI's new accelerometer
Series. "This new digital concept offers acceleration and inclination
sensing as a complete platform, which has in all directions the same
pin-out in one-, two- and three-axis accelerometers. ... |

PERKINELMER debuts new xenon flash
product family at 6SightTM future of imaging conference |
| |
Trim XeTM Product Family Delivers the World’s Best Photographic Image
Quality to Digital and Mobile Phone Markets. 6SightTM Future of Imaging,
Monterey, CA – PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, a global technology leader
in digital imaging, specialty lighting and optical detection
technologies, today announced that it will debut its new Trim XeTM
family of Xenon Flash products at the 2006 6Sight Future of Imaging
Conference, October 24-25, 2006 at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa in
Monterey, CA. PerkinElmer’s new Trim Xe product family provides numerous
advantages over prior generation Xenon products as well as LED “flash.”
The Trim Xe line delivers a dramatic 35% reduction in module size over
prior generation Xenon products. In addition, Xenon Flash provides 1000
times greater brightness than the brightest LEDs in consumer photography
applications and enables greater than 100 times faster shutter speed and
shorter exposure time than with LEDs ... |

Operating in STEREO: e2v image sensors
help NASA snap 3D pictures of the Sun |
| |
Due for launch on 25 October, NASA’s STEREO mission will count on image
sensors from e2v to capture detailed pictures of the Sun. The
mission will use two simultaneously orbiting spacecraft to study the Sun
in a three dimensional manner. The resulting 3D snaps will provide a
world-first view of the Sun-Earth relationship from sideways on, and
will also help to predict when space weather events will affect the
Earth. STEREO is NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory, which
forms part of the Solar Terrestrial Probes programme. STEREO will
examine the Earth-sun relationship from a side viewpoint with two almost
identical satellites. While one spacecraft will fly ahead of the Earth
in its orbit around the Sun, the second spacecraft will lag behind. In
this way, the stream of energy and matter approaching the Earth from the
Sun will be studied in a three dimensional manner. e2v designed and
supplied twelve flight model CCD (charge coupled device) image sensors
and eight engineering models for STEREO. Ten of the flight models will
actually fly with STEREO, five CCDs in each spacecraft. ... |

LIN slave MLX80103 enables easy LIN
connection of switch modules |
| |
Melexis extends its family of smart LIN slave IC's with a reconfigurable
LIN switch slave. MLX80103 can be used to interface with any door, roof,
seat, steering wheel, dashboard, HVAC, light control or similar switch
module. For this purpose Melexis and BMW Group have jointly
developed a universal configuration of the MLX80103. The integration of
LIN physical layer, voltage regulator and integrated application IO’s
results in a reduction in component cost. The integration of LIN
controller and the set of predefined LIN identifiers make switch modules
speak LIN in no time. Incorporating the Melexis LIN transceiver Physical
layer that is now approved by and in use with most car manufacturers
today, Melexis LIN ASSPs (Application Specific Standard Products)
guarantee state of the art physical layer qualification results. The LIN
protocol handler meets the current LIN 2.0 standard and can be easily
extended for future LIN 2.1. In close collaboration with car
manufacturers Melexis defines the configuration settings of the ASSPs to
assure a straightforward fit across different applications and car
platforms. ... |
