Successful Multi-Channel Cabling now Extended to Temperature Signals

Kistler is introducing its successful multi-channel cabling to temperature signals for injection molding. This technology is based on the miniaturized thermocouple amplifier Type 2205A... with 2 or 4 channels, to which the sensors are connected using the cut and grip technique.
The amplifier's compactness allows direct mounting in the mold for ideal connecting cable and electronics protection. A special case is available for mounting on the mold or machine. The amplifier is connected to the CoMo Injection process monitoring system Type 2869A... with just one cable, which can transmit up to 4 temperature signals. The new amplifier provides ideal support for the combined pressure and temperature sensors Type 6189A... and 6190B.... With CoMo Injection for injection molding, Kistler had already introduced multi-channel cabling for pressure sensors. This method allows connection of up to 8 sensors in the mold with just one cable. Signals from both pressure and temperature sensors can now be measured, analyzed and evaluated on the CoMo Injection.

New ½” Preamplifier with Gain, Filtering and TEDS for Automotive and Aerospace Noise Source Identification and In-Cabin Testing

September 8, 2006, Depew, NY, USA – PCB Piezotronics, Inc. introduces a new model to its line of acoustic products. Model 426A11 is a 1/2” preamplifier that operates from ICP® Sensor Power. The preamplifier allows the user to select 0 or +20 dB of gain and either a 20 Hz (-3dB) High Pass Filter or A-Weighted filter output response, in lieu of flat unfiltered response, via two switches, located on the external diameter. An overload detector senses both polarity overload signals in front of the filters.
The unit comes standard with TEDS and is programmable upon request. Model 426A11 preamplifier includes both A-weight and selectable “High Pass” filter, for automotive or aerospace cabin testing requirements. The “A-weight” filter attenuates signals less responsive to the human ear, normally below 1 kHz and above 4 kHz. This filter represents how the human ear perceives that sound. To make the cabin less noisy, a random incidence microphone (such as PCB Model 377B20), designed to measure sound from different angles of incidence, along with A-weight filter, is the choice of test equipment. ...

Industrial ICP® Pressure Sensors for Pumps, Compressors, & Dynamic Pulsation Detection

September 8, 2006, Depew, NY – The Pressure Division of PCB Piezotronics, Inc. announces a series of industrial grade ICP® dynamic pressure sensors. The Series 121A20/30 industrial, dynamic ICP® pressure sensors are offered in a variety of full-scale ranges from 100 psi to 5000 psi (689 kPa to 34473 kPa) (for ±5V output); sensitivities from 1 mV/psi to 50 mV/psi (±20%) (0.145 mV/kPa to 7.25 mV/kPa); ...
... and feature all-welded, stainless-steel construction and a 1/4 NPT pressure fitting (straight metric M14 thread is optional). The units contain built-in microelectronic circuitry to deliver a clean, voltage output signal. Electrical case isolation provides shielding from electromagnetic fields and eliminates ground loop problems. All units conform to CE directives. The series is available with either a 2-pin MIL connector or an integral, molded, submersible cable assembly. The hermetically sealed stainless steel construction protects against contamination and permits use in harsh industrial applications. The devices offer the unique ability to detect very small pressure fluctuations in the presence of high static background pressures. Typical applications include detection of dynamic pulsations, ...

New High Sensitivity, Triaxial DC Response Accelerometer

September 8, 2006, Depew, NY, USA – The Vibration division of PCB Piezotronics (PCB®) has announced new Series 3713, a high sensitivity, MEMS DC (steady state) response accelerometer, capable of measuring accelerations in a variety of automotive and off-highway testing applications. PCB’s Series 3713 is gas damped, and provides micro g resolution and ±5,000 g pk (49,033 m/s2 pk) shock survivability.
Several full-scale acceleration ranges are available, from 3 to 200 g, with a frequency response from DC to 1,500 Hz (±10%). The sensor incorporates built-in conditioning electronics that provide amplification to the sensing elements and temperature compensated output. The footprint for Series 3713 is a 1-inch (28 mm) cube in a welded titanium case design, with a choice of either hermetic connector or integral cable. The accelerometer is well-suited for applications such as brake deceleration compliance certification; durability testing of vehicle radiators and air coolers; roll stiffness/static rollover threshold tests; vehicle and component test chamber instrumentation; and NVH and multi-axis motion test platforms. ...

Contact Free Mold Cavity Pressure Measurement

With the measuring pin sensors Type 9243B..., 9245B... and 9247A..., Kistler now offers the ideal solution for measuring the cavity pressure for parts with very stringent optical and finish requirements. These sensors are placed behind the wall of the cavity in the mold structure or in the die, where they measure the compression strain of the steel induced by the cavity pressure.
This mounting location away from the surface of the cavity also avoids influencing the temperature field near the surface of the mold. Measurement of cavity pressure for injection molded optical parts such as lenses or light guides, and moldings with class A finishes for the automotive industry, was just not possible in the past. Their surfaces must be free of any marks from sensors, measuring pins or ejectors.

New Closing Force and Mold Protection Sensor for Injection Molding machines

Monitoring of the closing force and mold protection are important molding process functions that have to be controlled or monitored. With the strain transmitter Type 9238A... Kistler now offers a sensor that combines the measuring element and the electronics in a single case.
It measures both small forces during mold movement and high closing forces during mold closure. The transmitter is easily mounted with just one M6 screw. The built-in electronics have two signal outputs providing parallel signals representing the force during tool movement and the closing force. This allows simple integration into the molding machine's control system. Both measuring ranges and other functions, such as signal inversion and signal offset, can be preset with the software. Combining the actual sensor and the electronics in one unit makes the assembly extremely robust and provides it with maximum protection under the tough conditions of routine production.

Kistler Remains World Miniaturization Champion

Kistler launched the smallest (front diameter of just 1 mm) direct measuring mold cavity pressure sensor in the world (type 6183A...) back in 2003. Two new cavity pressure sensors in current production are also extremely small: with a length of 4,4 mm the new indirect measuring pressure sensor Type 9210A… is only slightly bigger than a single granule.
The new direct measuring pressure sensor Type 6184A… has a front diameter of 1,2 mm and length of just 6,4 mm. Even under extremely tight mounting conditions the new sensors can measure the cavity pressure for extremely small moldings reliably. The side cable exit allows radial or axial mounting in molds. At the heart of the sensors are the PiezoStar® crystals developed and grown in-house. Their high sensitivity makes them the only way of achieving such extreme miniaturization. The new sensors naturally exploit single-wire technology to enable for multi-channel cabling. This method allows connection of up to 8 sensors to the CoMo Injection process monitoring system Type 2869A… or the DataFlow analysis system Type 2865A… with a single cable.. ...
