OPTIWAVE now available with purge system |
| |
 |
KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE radar level gauge is now available with an
optional purge system. The gauge can be purged with gases or liquids
compatible with the process. The purge system is available for the
extended-antenna versions of OPTIWAVE in DN 40, DN 50, and DN 80.
Purging of the Teflon impedance transformer, the waveguide, and the
antenna occurs tangentially and ensures that the entire antenna system
is reliably cleaned. |
|
|
Purge systems are used primarily in applications where products tend to
stick or cake. The antenna may become fouled with product adhesions or
drying residues of condensation. Significant signal attenuation or
obstruction inside the antenna may result. To ensure that the
measurement is not negatively impacted by this type of problem, it is
recommended to use the new purge system developed by KROHNE. ... |

4B Touchswitch |
| |
 |
Belt misalignment on an elevator is a problem that is difficult to solve
because it needs to be adapted for each elevator and type of elevator.
When traditional techniques are used such as inductive, magnetic and
capacitance sensors, different factors need to be considered: elevator
size, bucket size, bucket type (steel, stainless steel, “plastic”,
aluminium…), type of transported product, because in this case it is the
buckets that the sensors detect. |
|
|
This is not always easy and sometimes difficult to realize. The
TOUCHSWITCH is a new type of stainless steel sensor that has been
designed to solve the problem of belt misalignment detection in zone 20
on conveyors and especially on elevators. The Touchswitch reacts to the
pressure exerted on its front cover by the misaligned belt or pulley.
The sensor communicates with a relay contact which triggers an alarm or
stops the machine. ... |

absolute humidity (dv) - mixing ratio (r) - air velocity (v) - water
activity in oil (aw) - water content in oil (x). The large display with
back light and the robust housing allows the use of OMNIPORT also in
harsh industrial environment. The thumbwheel navigation with easy to use
menus as well as the calibration procedure stand for easy and user
friendly operation. A carrying case is available for an OMNIPORT display

Object100, compact versatility |
| |
 |
In automatic storage systems it is important that loaded pallets or
other product carriers are compactly loaded and there is no overhang of
goods. Such excess or overhang can lead to damage or malfunction. Thanks
to the extremely high sample rate of the Object100 measuring light
curtain from CEDES, an object which crosses the invisible excess
barrier is immediately detected and a corresponding stop signal is sent
to the system control. |
|
|
With it, the risk of damage or disruption is eliminated early. Object100
can however do even more: With the integrated measuring function, the
light curtain measures the dimensions of the goods which need to be
loaded. With this information the system controller can allocate an
ideal storage location to the product carrier for the most efficient use
of the storage space. The Object100 light curtain is unique in offering
the possibility of dimension measuring and overhang monitoring with just
one sensor system. ... |

Lion Precision Releases Eddy-Current
Thread Sensors for Ferrous and Nonferrous Materials |
| |
 |
A major automotive manufacturer lost over $1 million in 2003 due to
untapped holes in aluminum engine heads. To help address this problem,
Lion Precision has released two series of eddy-current probes
developed specifically for thread detection. The "T" series detects
tapped threads in either ferrous or nonferrous materials. |
|
|
The "R" series detects roll-formed threads in ferrous materials. Both
feature sensing elements that extend well beyond the probe body to allow
penetration for inspection of threaded holes. The "T" series uses a
traditional eddy-current probe design, but the "R" series features
unique, radially mounted sensing coils. Radial mounting of the coils
focuses the probe’s magnetic field directly toward the threads which
increases the systems sensitivity to thread presence/absence. This added
sensitivity is often required in the detection of roll-formed threads ... |

e2v CCD rockets to Venus with the
European Space Agency |
| |
 |
An e2v CCD image sensor was recently rocketed into space as part
of the European Space Agency’s new fact-finding mission to Venus. The
‘Venus Express’ will study the chemistry and composition of Venus’ hot,
high pressure atmosphere, relying on the e2v device to help it reach its
destination. |
|
|
Data collected will provide unprecedented detail on the planet’s surface
and history.
The e2v CCD47-20 is a startracking device, which has been incorporated
into the spacecraft’s startracker camera – a vital component in the
mission’s guidance system. The CCD looks at the stars as it travels,
referring to its built-in star map to determine its exact location. By
knowing the spacecraft’s current location, the imaging device can then
communicate where it needs to move to next ... |

wenglor’s New Inductive Proximity
Switches |
| |
 |
A wide variety of applications can now be implemented even faster and
more cost effectively with wenglor inductive proximity sensors.
Diverse designs in combination with various housing materials and modes
of operation leave nothing to be desired. The Same Switching Distance
for All Types of Metal - Inductive All-Metal Sensors. |
|
|
Whether aluminium, copper, brass or steel is involved – the all-metal
sensor always has the same switching distance thanks to the use of a
differential transformer. The sensors have a correction factor of 1.
Thanks to its Teflon coating, this wenglor inductive sensor can be used
in practically any industrial environment. Welding spatter doesn’t
adhere to its outside surfaces, making it ideal for use in the
automotive industry and aircraft manufacturing. And it’s resistant to
magnetic fields as well. The sensors are further distinguished by large
switching distances of up to 35 mm. Made Entirely of Metal for Demanding
Tasks – Inductive Solid Metal Sensors. ... |

New robust Hall effect rotary sensor will
be launched at Mtec 2006 |
| |
 |
Penny + Giles will be launching its new robust rotary position
sensor SRH880 at Mtec 2006, stand D144. With a 88mm diameter housing and
12mm diameter shaft, SRH880 is the largest non-contact Hall effect
rotary sensor in the Penny + Giles industrial range, providing OEMs with
reliable measurement for heavy duty agricultural and utility vehicles. |
|
|
Unlike potentiometric sensors, the SRH880 can operate in high dither
vibration conditions with no deterioration of the sensing element. It is
not susceptible to shock and vibration, making it ideal for steering
position monitoring and hydraulic lifting systems on off-highway
vehicles. It is also available with an optional stainless steel housing
for applications in offshore, marine, steel production and power
generation environments, and has a protection rating to IP68M ... |

High Precision Gap Measurement in
Coaters/Extruders |
| |
 |
For the past
15 years Capacitec has been working closely with leading global
manufacturers of labels, tapes and films to develop a system to
precisely measure slot die coater gaps. The new system has made
dramatic improvements over traditional gap measurement methods such as
feeler gauges by achieving coater gap uniformity better than 10
microinches (0.25 microns). |
|
|
This results in uniform product thickness of both media and coatings
across widths of several metres. It offers extremely high resolutions of
1 microinch/2.5 microns and accuracy of 8 microinches/20 microns for
very thin gaps (down to 0.009”/0.23 mm). The new non-contact capacitive
gap measurement solution includes sensor wands, special wand holders,
signal conditioning electronics and mating Bargrafx™ software. ... |
